Our Privacy Policy applies to visitors of our web site and official social media platforms. It is intended to identify the types of information Carnegie Institute gathers from users and explain how that information is used.

Information Collected by the School

We recognize the importance of protecting private information collected through our web site and social media platforms against unauthorized access, use or disclosure. The Institute limits employee access to personal information to only those employees who have official duties related to the information.

You may explore the school’s web site without revealing or disclosing any sensitive information. If a visitor completes the “Get Started Today” form or the “Qualification Questionnaire” to request additional program information while exploring our web site, you may be asked to voluntarily provide your name, address, phone number, email address, program of interest, or other personal information to provide the information that you need. Carnegie will ethically collect, manage, utilize and secure any confidential personal data provided to the Institute.

Information collected during the visit to Carnegie’s web site includes the Internet domain from which a visitor accesses the web site, the IP address assigned to the visitor’s computer, the type of browser the visitor is using, date and time of the visit and the address of the web site from which the visitor has linked to carnegie-institute.edu.

How information is Used

Our primary usage of information that you, as a visitor, voluntarily supply, is to provide material to you on our educational programs, our school, and details related to accreditation, admissions, placement, financial aid, etc. that you requested. We also make every effort to provide you with appropriate follow-up, support and communication by way of telephone/mobile devices, email, text message, and/or postal mail.

As a student or alumni, our usage of the information would be associated with purposes related to Carnegie Institute events, special outreaches or initiatives. Please note, that any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, follow the opt-out instructions contained on email messages you receive.

In addition, visitor information collected by the school’s web site or our social media platforms, may be used, including but not limited to, determining general information about the way you use our web site, pages viewed during the web site visit, date and time of visit, amount of time spent on the pages of our web site, visitor location based on IP address, demographic information, and/or personally identifiable information voluntarily submitted to Carnegie-institute.edu. This information is used to monitor and improve the Institute’s web site performance, revise content and market to prospective students and others.

Information Sharing

The Institute will not sell, transfer, rent, loan, trade or release personal information collected on this site to any agency or company outside of Carnegie Institute. However, when required by law, or when the Institute determines sharing will help to protect the safety, property or rights of the Institute, members of the community and guests the Institute may share personal information upon written request and receipt of a signed release.

How is Information Secured

The Institute has employed security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under its control. When visitors submit personal information on our web site, their information is protected on our secured server. Our web site is managed by Media Temple and our server is managed by MacroConnect, an experienced IT Company, specializing in servicing educational facilities/schools.

The Institute’s web site includes links to professional organizations’ web sites and social media platforms and are provided as a service to the users. We do not control the privacy policies of the destination sites and are not responsible for the content of external web links.

Social Security Number Privacy Policy

Pursuant to Michigan’s Social Security Number Privacy Act, Carnegie Institute takes the mandatory steps concerning social security numbers of employees, students, and graduates and those collected from the ordinary course of business.  Particular attention is given to the confidentiality of the SSN, prohibition of unlawful disclosure of the SSN, limiting access to documents that contain the SSN, proper disposal of documents that contain the SSN and penalties for violation of the SSN privacy policy.

Changes to the Institute’s Privacy Policy

The Institute may update this policy at any time. The Institute will notify the public about significant changes in the way it treats personal information by publishing it on the school’s web site with an updated effective date. By using the web site and providing us with personal identifiable information, the visitor consents to our use of such information as described in the Policy.
