Directed study and specialized training build competencies in professional skills and management applications for an automated medical office setting. Medical language skills which include correct application of medical terms related to general and specialty practices, pharmacology, laboratory medicine, and diagnostic imaging are emphasized. A knowledge of medical reports including histories and physicals, discharge summaries and chart notes are incorporated in the program.
Training and skill development in computer applications includes MS Office Database, Spreadsheets and Word Processing. Medical language skills are also applied to processing insurance claims utilizing coding references, and in maintaining patient records and filing systems. Focus is placed on accurate performance of computerized medical insurance billing and claims submissions incorporating specialized software.
Office systems extend to procedures in accounts receivable/payable, recordkeeping and medical billing practices. Medical Law and Ethics in medical office administration gives insight into importance of confidentiality and required documentation for the medical record.
